September Skincare Edit
a Better Happier Beauty Story
the natural + luxurious products I'm loving for fall
featuring: Sahajan + Kahina Giving Beauty
"Only 16 more days until fall!" she said anxiously as she sweat through the enormous sweater she was wearing for her fall beauty post. I heard she even switched out the kitchen soap for an "heirloom pumpkin" scent, in hopes she could summon cool weather with a swap of wardrobe and a pre-season impulse purchase. Ha.
There's likely no need to clarify that I'm speaking about myself, but just in case... yes, I have been desperately trying to summon the cool breezes I felt when I was in Maine last week with some sweaters and pumpkin soap.
The autumnal equinox is less than a few weeks away, and I have high hopes that the summer will leave us gracefully, letting a true fall enter (none of this, autumn weather for 1 week and then winter nonsense, no thank you) to take its place at precisely the right time. September has been dangling the promise of crisp temperatures in front of us like a carrot, and I've taken to blaming this particularly humid summer on my earlier than usual craving to wear all of the layers, and drink all of the hot things.
Diving head first into organic beauty has been a slow process of trying and testing what works well with my skin. Regardless of season, my hair and skin tend to be on the very dry side, and I've found that my skin loves and craves oils and serums that really pack in the moisture and add some much needed nourishment. Many of us have seasonal skincare and hair routines, and as we head into the colder months where moisture will be in extra short supply, I want my skin to feel as soft as it can, without any residue or heaviness left behind from the products. I've received a handful of different brand's organic beauty products recently to try, and I was blown away by how much I loved Kahina Giving Beauty and Sahajan's skincare offerings, particularly Kahina's Oil Cleanser and Moisture Mask, and Sahajan's Face Serum and Hair Oil.
Kahina Giving Beauty's argan-based products are ethically and sustainably sourced, using natural and organic ingredients. The products I've tried feel so luxurious on my skin, and the story behind the brand is entirely beautiful. I love seeing not just a focus on the ingredients, but a focus on all of the hands that go into making the final product that will grace your bathroom shelf. With a mission of delivery high quality skincare products, while simultaneously providing economic independence to those who work to provide their raw materials, it's impossible to ignore the true beauty that is behind Kahina Giving Beauty. Their focus on properly supporting the hardworking Berber women who inhabit the argan forest in the Southwest of Morocco, by paying fair wages and donating an additional percentage of their revenue to programs that support these women and their families was impactful to read about. It's a brand I'm so happy to continue to support.
Sahajan, derived from the Hindi word for “intuitive” makes organic Ayurvedic products that not only look beautiful, but feel so lush on your skin.
via Sahajan •Ayurveda, translated from Sanskrit, means the Science of Life. It’s a mind-body science that reminds that us we need to be in balance. Modern day stressors, the environment, and our diet get us out of balance. Ayurveda seeks to understand each person’s unique needs and looks to plant-based remedies, yoga, meditation and other practices to achieve that balance. •As a former pharmaceutical executive, it was important to me to give our clients the confidence to chose both Ayurveda and clean beauty. Our team in Canada worked with leading Ayurvedic doctors in Kerala to develop the collection but that wasn’t enough, I wanted to prove our efficacy. All of our products have been through either extensive regulatory reviews, clinical trials and consumer testing. All of that to say- we don’t make any claims that aren’t backed up by science.
This attention to detail and focus on science I can really get behind. I love that they've listed their stance on naturals, and a full ingredients list is also available on the website.
As we all soak up these final days of summer (while we're not-so-secretly dreaming of an early fall...), I hope this offers a little insight into some beautiful beauty brands, and inspiration for transitioning or updating your seasonal skincare routine.
