where wild resilience meets understated sophistication
a Better Happier Home story featuring
warm + elegant linens from Maine
THIS is the forest primeval.
The murmuring pines and the hemlocks, Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight, Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic, Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest.
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Evangeline
It's no big secret that we are home bodies at heart. For as often as we are traveling, for work and for fun, there's a comfort that can't be described when I know we'll be staying put for a while.
On my travels there have been so many landscapes that have stayed with me after I leave, places that inevitably inspire a myriad of choices that I make to our home. Maine is the first that comes to mind. Coastal Route 1 is dear to my heart, which is big reason why I was immediately enchanted by Evangeline Linens. Drawing inspiration from the same beautifully rugged wilderness that makes my travels through Maine an incredibly visceral series of memories, I was honored and excited for the opportunity to share and showcase these beautiful blankets with you. My inspiring friend Meredith, who you might remember from my feature last fall, showcasing her shop that features female artisans- Amie, is the one who originally introduced me to Evangeline after her work with them. As I made my way through the pictures online, enraptured by the details and descriptions, I just knew that these textiles would fit seamlessly into any home that appreciates beauty, without sacrificing functionality.
Styling our home has been an inspiring learning experience for me, and it often feels a bit like a road map of where we've been and where we'd like to go. If I had to describe the vibe that I want you to feel when you walk in the door, it would be warm, soft, and welcoming. One of the best ways I've found to achieve that is through texture, especially movable texture. A blanket that can be carried from room to room, from chair to sofa, inside to outside. Particularly because our house is so small and simple, pops of herringbone, ticking stripe and high quality wool have made for the coziest addition to the space overall. Evangeline's heirloom quality textiles are well worth the investment, as they serve your home on the daily, bringing in a touch of the resilient elegance that Maine encapsulates.
