natural skin for spring
a springtime skincare refresh
featuring my current clean green favs
Springtime seems like the best time to really rethink what we're doing to our skin. Winter left mine feeling dry and depleted, and once spring finally showed up it was like letting out a giant sigh of relief. It gives me a whole new rush of energy to really listen to my skin, and give it what it needs. My biggest resolution this year was to finally clear out any and all skincare products that aren't organic, as I still had a few lingering in the wings after I switched over to a Juice Beauty regimen during a serious bout of break outs (their blemish clearing solutions kit kept me from having a full on break-down last year). Even though I was about 80% of the way there in my skincare routine, I still felt susceptible to being sucked in by dewy make-up ads and product claims, when in reality, I knew I could 100% achieve that with organic skincare and organic makeup.
If you're feeling hesitant to take the leap into green beauty- I totally get it. It's why it took me the better part of a year to fully commit, as I found myself doing it product by product. When one would run out, I looked for a green alternative that sounded interesting or similar. The fact that accessibility for green beauty has made leaps and bounds also makes the process a whole lot easier. I've been seeing organic options at Target, and pharmacies for a while now, and almost everything in my current regimen is available at Whole Foods.
My skin is really dry by default, meaning winter always does a number on it. My current products, especially ACURE's Brightening Facial Serum has my skin feeling hydrated and glowier than ever. My daily routine has always been simple, but now I find myself grabbing for makeup less and less often. I don't know if it can much simpler than that! Sailor by Captain Blankenship is a newer discovery of mine, this line is specific to Target and has some really amazing smelling products. The Sea Mist Refreshing Toner pictured is my favorite toner ever. If you really love Thayer's Witch Hazel (which I do), this might be worth a try. It's great when used as a toner but I also use it as a little midday pick-me-up for dull skin.
Apart from switching up my routine, the big change I made that likely impacted my skin the most recently, is I had my nexplanon implant removed. I loved it at first, but the side effects proved to be intense. I gave it a full year, but the minuses began to outweigh the pluses, and once I saw my skin clear up significantly, I knew that it was the right move. I'm definitely still prone to hormonal break-outs on my chin and jawline, but far less than before.
After my skin initially improved from the blemish regimen last summer into fall, and a birth-control switch, I started to feel comfortable and excited to try out some more new-to-me products. Juice Beauty is definitely still my ride or die for everyday cleansing, especially after trying their new Brightening Solutions Kit. I listed the rest of what I'm loving lately below, particularly my new Rose Quartz Facial Roller, which promotes youth + healing, but also just feels amazing on your skin. Talk about self-care! It feels sooooo amazing, you'll be hooked after the first use.
*Side Note: I'm collaborating with Captain Blankenship on a full post, featuring a full round up of their products! Also, organic makeup is coming atcha soon !
