We celebrated the first day of fall on the beach, just after I swore up and down that I was done with warm weather. We got to the Outer Banks in record time this year, leaving promptly at 5 AM, arriving just before lunch. My tune of being done with all things summer quickly shifted as we threw on swimsuits and headed for the water the moment we got in. This year’s trip was lucky on the weather front, and I didn’t at all mind the chilly nights or intermittent rain showers. It’s a place where we feel so calm and blissed out from the sunshine and salty sea air.

During this transitional part of the season, as fall says hello to summer and the nights start to get cool, everything feels extra special. The Outer Banks are always quieter than usual around this time, and one of my favorite, and I do mean absolute favorite things, is when it’s sweater weather on the beach. We were thrilled at the opportunity to collab with Louis Jadot on a little fall picnic, to showcase some versatile wine that is never far from the collection we keep on hand. French is my go-to when I’m in the mood for red, and Robert slowly got me hooked on Pinot Noir not too long ago. Louis Jadot has a special place in my heart, because it was one of the first wines I reached for when I realized that I could never go wrong with French. Their Pinot and Beaujolais-Villages are staples on our wine shelf, and easily accessible in so many places.

We wanted the spread to be simple, and easy to put together with ingredients you can get from most groceries. We were happily surprised to see Savannah Bee Company’s Raw Acacia Honeycomb (that I’ve been putting on just about everything cheese board related), at the grocery store right by where we stay. What else made the pairing extra delicious? Late summer tomatoes from the garden that we brought from home, Orange Fig Spread, and my always and forever favorite, Parm Crisps.

Cheers to planning your next picnic, embracing sweater weather, and enjoying the first days of fall with big glass of wine.
